You cannot see many oak trees here any more but from time to time you'll find one. Young ones are being planted again. Most of the real old ones are gone, have been cut down to make place for farming ground or other reasons. Once Germany has been a country full of oak tree forests. These times are gone - in the meanwhile people start to think about environmental issues much more than 50 years ago. There is hope...

After the great storm in the UK in 1987, many oaks were lost. Later, school children were encouraged to collect acorns and find young trees and plant them to replace those lost. I remember the one my son cared for, for many years, until we moved from the area.
I think this is the best you can do - increase the awareness in children so that the older generation takes part of the change too....
