Sunset in a Bloom

The weather is awful today, cold, rainy - simply yuck. So I dream of past late sunny days such as this one when I took these photos...

Gladiola in Salmon Pink...

Now - did I tell you that I am a fan of glads? No? Well - look at this colour and then tell me it is not gorgeous...

Presentation of a Bloom....

Here just another example for presentation - simple but effective. While a white flower may not be the ultra eyecatcher it will become one with the right passepartout and the right frame. Again less is more - but that's only my opinion...

Gladiola in Violet

Look at the intensity of this lilac colour - it looks so juicy and reminds me very much of those sugarsticks you get as a child on a country fair...

Gladiola in White...

I love Gladiola for their delicacy and elegance, for their fragility. They are easily broken and rain and wind often do their part to shorten the life of this beautiful bloom. Then I feel sorry for all the wasted beauty, often destroyed before anyone could appreciate it.

And Pink again...

This is the colour I long for most in winter time when everything is so awfully grey and dark. Now I can go into my blog and bring back all those colours again...

Presentation of an elegant Bloom...

I think if you want to present an elegant and delicate bloom such as this in a photo you need to give it the right environment. It is not enough to just place it behind some glass and nail it to the wall. It needs attention - wouldn't you agree? There are many different possibilities today and the framing shops offer plentiful choices which do not need to be expensive - this is just one example how it can look like even if the flower itself is not dramatic...

Dipped in Paint...

These blooms of a gladiola look as if Mother Nature had started with yellow, then changed her mind and dipped the petals in some orange paint...

Digital Bloom...

Today I thought I'll show you something different - an image digitally enhanced from a photo that I would have thrown away - normally. But then I thought - hey - maybe that's still usable - let's see what's coming out of this. And here it is: an abstract image of a decaying flower (a gladiola) and below is the original. So - think about twice before throwing away a bad photo...
I just liked the colours in this one and the painterly quality about it...

Gladiolus in Fire...

Now this was nearly impossible to photograph without having a whole lot of problems with my camera - only photoshop saved it partially... must be that red which is simply incredible...

Funnily I did not use a starfilter in the second shot - the reflection of the little water puddle that was in the bloom appeared by itself...

Lady Gladiola in deep Purple...

These flowers are not so easy to photograph because they turn their blooms in different directions - so you nearly always get a lot of unwanted background. This makes it difficult to show their beauty in full size...

Elegant Lady Gladiola...

This flower somehow always makes me think about an elegant lady. Maybe its the straight growth, the elegant setting in which the single blooms appear....
