Ha! Yes, that's exactly that color red I couldn't mix with oil paint. Thanks for the link over here and pointing out the funny coincidence. I've never seen a tree like that before. It seems to be much more colorful where you live!
I am not sure whether you find the barberry in form of a tree - here in Germany it's only bushes which are grown as low hedges norally.
Btw - regarding the mixing of colours I have a good tip for you: when I have problems mixing the right colours or if I simply want to know what a certain colour consists of I use photoshop. I enlarge a certain colour field till the maximum. From the pixels you can see quite easily how a colour is mixed up and how the eye perceives that kind of colour.
